Plantpeddler is hosting a side-by-side comparison of more than 150 commercial and pre-release poinsettia varieties, produced under true production protocols and environmental conditions, according to a press release. The event is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 5, at Plantpeddler’s base at 524 7th Street in Cresco, Iowa. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Central Time.
All major poinsettia breeders will be represented in the trial, including; Beekenkamp, Dümmen Orange, Lazzeri, Rinehart Poinsettias, Selecta One, Suntory and Syngenta Flowers. Industry representatives will be present to support their genetics and growers.
New this year is a “Lunch & Learn” meal and tech talk by Gary Vollmer, sponsored by Selecta One.
“As a leader in rooted poinsettias, the Poinsettia Variety Day is Plantpeddler’s investment in the growers producing this crop, the brokers supporting the sales, and commitment to the breeders who bring innovation and advancement in this key genus,” Plantpeddler owner Mike Gooder said, per a press release.
“The Plantpeddler poinsettia comparison trial site reflects the low light growing conditions of many northern parts of the U.S. very well. The trials are very well grown and executed, and this trial site is a critical addition to other key poinsettia trial sites in the U.S.,” said Karl Trellinger, a technical service representative with Syngenta Flowers.
Interested parties can RSVP by phone (800) 827-1654 and ask for Stacy Bryant or contact Plantpeddler by email at info@plantpeddler.com or on plantpeddler.com. Rooms are being held at the Cresco Super 8 Motel for Wednesday, Dec. 4. Please call 563-547-9988 to make a reservation and mention the Plantpeddler Poinsettia Trial.
