Connecticut plant professionals have chosen the poinsettia as the December pick for the Connecticut GardenStars program. Bob Heffernan of the Connecticut Green Industries Council said greenhouses in the state will produce and sell over 1.1 million poinsettias this year. He estimates their combined value (wholesale and retail) will be close to $16 million. As many as 25% of the poinsettias will be shipped outside the state.
