Purple is my favorite color, so I was ecstatic when Ecke Ranch’s Plum Pudding hit the market in 2002. I know I wasn’t the only one since I work in Texas Christian University’s purple-dominated hometown.
Plum Pudding was the first purple-bracted poinsettia available. Its bracts contrast nicely with the bright-green foliage. Bract color is influenced by light intensity and temperature, so Plum Pudding should be finished under warm, shaded conditions for the best results. Lower light will cause the bracts to be softer purple.
Timing for Plum Pudding is similar to Peterstar series with a more vigorous habit. Flower initiation date is Sept. 25.
It is a midseason variety that finishes in nine weeks.

Chemical growth regulators are only minimally needed for this cultivar. It is responsive to A-Rest, Bonzi, Cycocel and Sumagic.
