The Penn State Trial Gardens are once again conducting research on a little over a thousand varieties. The gardens are open to the public and post all research findings online for public consumption.
Lancaster Online reports that the gardens recently hosted a field day, which about 300 people attended. During the event, visitors saw 1,176 varieties from some 41 companies. Lancaster Online wrote that Penn State is no rookie to trialing. Penn State has been testing flower varieties since 1933. In 1992, the testing was shifted from the University Park campus to the Auction Road location.
