When pest problems occur, putting your crops are at risk, sometimes it’s best to call the pros to help you find the best solution. This is the first of a four-part series where a SePRO expert will weigh in to address top-concerning issues growers face when it comes to properly eradicating unwanted pests in their operations.
Question 1: Dear SePRO, I’m a grower facing an issue of thrips attacking my Gerbera daisy plants. What’s the best course of action to save my crop?
Mark Brotherton, SePRO Portfolio Leader: My first step would be to apply Hachi-Hachi SC, which is a new, quick-acting product known for its ability to effectively control thrips. We have found the best strategy consists of two applications at 21 fl. oz. per 100 gallons, applied 14 days apart. That should clean up all of your thrips. Hachi-Hachi SC is active by contact and ingestion, so thorough spray coverage is necessary. As a secondary benefit, you should see great suppression of powdery mildew as well. In the end, you should see up to three weeks of thrips control, depending on the migratory pressure in your area.
