Rocket Farms, headquartered in Salinas, Calif., recent implemented additional energy saving measures throughout its greenhouse facilities that are estimated to save 305,256 therms per year, This is the same as removing 249 cars from the road or powering 616 homes for a year. The company’s efforts have been recognized through Pacific Gas & Electric Co.’s Non-Residential New Construction Rebate Program. The grower was awarded an incentive check worth over $280,000 for the amount of energy saved.
Rocket Farms’ energy greening measures include: installation of heat curtains, under-bench heating, rolling benches and drip irrigation; recycling 31.8 tons of cardboard and plastic in December alone; building a greenhouse constructed almost completely from onsite recycled materials and using an integrated pest management program.
