Seminars to focus on energy issues

The 2008 New England Greenhouse Conference & Expo, Nov. 5-7, in Worcester, Mass., will feature two days of in-depth programming on energy-related issues.

On Nov. 6, Eric Runkle from Michigan State University will discuss energy-efficient crop production strategies. He will address crop production techniques and management strategies that limit energy exposure. Robin Brumfield from Rutgers University will talk about the economics of increased energy costs.

On Nov. 7, Vern Grubinger from University of Vermont will review alternative fuel sources. He will discuss advantages and disadvantages of each type of alternative fuel source. Gerry Palano, renewable energy coordinator at Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources, will explain how to identify sources of state and federal funding for energy improvements. John Bartok Jr., extension professor emeritus at University of Connecticut, will provide an overview on energy savings based upon his experience working with growers.
