‘Put on a Senetti Smile’ promotion heralds spring

Large-scale consumer promotion coordinated by Suntory Flowers, Armstong Garden Centers and EuroAmerican Propagators

On President’s Day weekend, a group of green-industry companies coordinated a huge consumer promotion to kick off spring. “Put on a Senetti Smile” events were held at more than 30 locations throughout California, and coordinated by Suntory Flowers, Armstong Garden Centers and EuroAmerican Propagators. The events spotlighted Senetti Pericallis hybrids from Suntory—billed as “the first flower of spring.”

At area shopping malls, several thousand Senetti plants in 6-inch pots were given away to waiting throngs as part of a Facebook contest. Recipients were asked to take a picture with the plant and post it on Armstong Garden Centers’ Facebook page. The photo with the most “likes” will win a $500 Armstong Garden Center’s gift card.

The weekend’s festivities also included a truck parade. A convoy of Senetti-branded semi-trucks departed Armstong Garden Center in Capistrano to head to retail locations throughout California and the nation. The loaded trucks were escorted by four patrol cars to Interstate 5, with a musical send-off from Capistrano Valley High School Black and Gold Brigade, the state champion high-school marching band.

“This event is the result of over 20 years of breeding and production development,” said Shigeru Sarada, Suntory Flower’s managing director. “We’ll keep breeding and actively promoting varieties hoping to extend the market pie.”
