Finding the right Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program is key for successful growing and suppressing damaging pests.
Native Texas Nursery, a wholesale grower located in Austin, Texas, has been around for more than a quarter century. During that time, they’ve frequently battled with aphid populations. Natalie Preissinger, grower at Native Texas Nursery, says the pests frequently attack the site’s Asclepias, Tecoma stans and Salvia varieties but have been known to “show up all over the place.”
The company mostly grows natives, perennials, shrubs and trees.
To battle the aphids, Preissinger says, Native Texas has to spray regularly using a rotation of different chemicals. The company has utilized two SePRO products in the past year to great effect, Talus and Rycar, both are now staples of the nursery’s spray rotation.
Both products are gentle on beneficial insects and pollinators and cover crops against aphids, whiteflies, chili thrips, mealybugs and leafhoppers. Since adding Talus and Rycar to their spray rotation, Native Texas has been pleased with the outcome.
“We have had great results using Rycar and Talus in our spray rotation, especially for aphid control,” Preissinger says.
