Silver Vase, a producer of orchids and bromeliads in Homestead, Fla., has added QR (quick response) codes to its plant tags. The technology gives consumers access to additional information like plant care quickly by snapping specific matrix barcodes with their camera phones.
“QR codes are a quick, easy way for consumers to gain more information on caring for our quality orchids and bromeliads,” said company CEO Andrew Bartha. “By helping consumers be more successful with the plants they buy, we encourage them to continue looking to the horticulture industry for gifts, decoration or simply a treat for themselves.”
The QR codes take consumers to Silver Vase’s web site for detailed plant care information on plants including the Blue Mystique blue orchid.
“Knowing today’s consumer is short on time, we’re making horticulture easier,” Bartha said.
