Greenhouse to bring jobs

Tampa company plans to hire more than 100 people to help operate what will become the largest greenhouse in Florida

From The Daily Commercial: A Tampa company plans to hire more than 100 people in Groveland to help it operate what will become the largest greenhouse in the state -- bigger than 15 football fields.

Faith-based Gaballi LLC, along with sister company OrganicaWorld LLC, recently purchased property at the end of Honeycomb Road and also will be constructing the state's largest individual quick frozen food plant and a canning plant there for its mission to help people get affordable food. Cost of the project is $15 million.

"The two sister companies will work together to streamline the farming process and cost of food from farm to table," the company said in a press release.

Contacted Thursday, Gaballi CEO Colin Farnum said he hopes to have the greenhouse operating by November and the freeze plant up and running by January. The greenhouse alone will cover 880,000 square feet.

OrganicaWorld, through its farming expertise and property management skills, will be able to oversee the entire farming process in Groveland from seedling to harvest, the company said. The greenhouse will help fill the void on products that can be grown for Gaballi at other locations across the country.

"This greenhouse project is the first of its kind," the company said. "Due to Gaballi's unique distribution structure, the public will be able to buy all the goods grown in the greenhouse and the open acreage on the property, through their local churches and non-profit organizations, for a fraction of the retail price."
