CANBY, Ore. – Terra Nova Nurseries has announced Penstemon DAKOTA Verde. This tough, hardy perennial has a unique, lovely green leaf form, and it blooms during the heat of July and August, according to a press release.
Penstemon DAKOTA Verde has fresh, glossy leaves on a short and compact plant throughout summer. It begins to show beautiful lavender-to-violet flowers in June, rather than pink. The plant shows off stunning dark seed heads and foliage tinted dark purple during autumn.
USDA Hardiness Zones for Penstemon DAKOTA Verde are three to eight, and it offers the ability for full sun exposure. The variety’s mature plant height is 12”, with a width of 18”, and an extended flower height of 24”.
Special uses allow the new variety to be a multi-purpose garden plant in the Deep South. Penstemon DAKOTA Verde is deer-resistant and a pollinator attractor. Landscape applications include mixed beds, borders and even steep banks. The grower finish time to a 4” pot is fast at four to six weeks.
Terra Nova Nurseries has created a “Plant Profile” page and “Grower Recipe” specific to this new variety so growers interested in orders can learn about growing habits, plant characteristics, fertilization recommendations, water requirements, and other insights provided by the breeding team. These documents can be viewed and downloaded for printing at: terranovanurseries.com.
