Terra Nova Nurseries has announced the reintroduction of four verbascum varieties now available for liner orders to growers, including Verbascum ‘Dark Eyes,' Verbascum ‘Honey Dijon,' Verbascum ‘Plum Smokey,' and Verbascum ‘Sugar Plum.' While not a series, these individual verbascum reintroductions are hardy in zones 5 – 9 and are deer-resistant and drought-tolerant.
- Verbascum ‘Dark Eyes’ has a very short habit with large felted gray leaves in a rosette, with cone-shaped spikes of large, creamy yellow flowers with maroon centers. Ideal for the front of a sunny border, the average size is 8-inch height, 10-in. width, and 12-in. flower height.
- The sweet compact habit of Verbascum ‘Honey Dijon’ displays shades of peach and gold with a plum eye. The average size is 8-inch height, 14-inch width, 18-inch flower height.
- Verbascum ‘Plum Smokey’ features long-blooming rosettes, carrying a multitude of 16" flowering stems above the foliage with numerous, large, smoky-purple flowers. It requires full sun with good drainage. The average size is 8-in. height, 12-in. width, and 16-in. flower height.
- Verbascum ‘Sugar Plum’ carries large, clear plum flowers on numerous spikes over a ring of foliage. This dwarf reblooms for months in full sun with good drainage. The average size is 8-in. height, 12-in. width, and18-in. flower height.
- Introduced as a brand new variety this week, the long-blooming Begonia T Rex™ ‘St. Nick’ has a jolly red center surrounded by emerald green and white polka dots. With its dense shrub-like habit and pink flowers, it is a great fit for containers inside and out. Hardy in zones 9 – 11, the average size is 16-in. height, 16-in. width, and 16-in.flower height.
