Three students earn internships from AFE Mosmille

Three students were awarded 2016 American Floral Endowment Mosmiller Internships. The students will receive a $2,000 scholarship after successfully completing their internships.

The Mosmiller Internship Program allows interns to train at leading retail, wholesale or allied trade operations for a period of 10-16 weeks, getting valuable on-the-job work experience.

Beginning in 1975 with earnings from a bequest by the late Colonel and Mrs. Walter E. Mosmiller Jr., this program provides quality professional training for motivated floriculture and environmental horticulture students.

Recipients are:

Loren Marie Anthony – internship at Shirley’s Flowers, Rogers, Ark.

Anthony is a horticulture student at the University of Arkansas and an active member of the Horticulture Club and the GroGreen Club. She hopes to gain a deeper understanding of the operations of a floral business through her internship experience.

Kailey Brooks – internship at Baisch & Skinner, St. Louis, Mo.

Brooks is a plant science major at the University of Missouri, with an emphasis in horticulture and design, and is a member of the school’s Horticulture Club. She is interested in learning the stages of growing, harvesting and processing of flowers and greenery.

Jaclyn Nelson – internship at Bachman’s, Maplewood, Minn.

A junior studying horticulture at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Nelson has a passion for both flowers and entrepreneurship. She is excited about working for a company that will help her learn about how a floral business can grow and thrive in this industry.

The next deadline for students to submit applications and supporting materials is Oct. 1.
