Timbuk Farms in Granville, Ohio, has expanded with the addition of a 1.5-acre glass greenhouse. The Newark Advocate reports that the new facility is equipped with heated cement floors, flood irrigation floors and movable tables. The greenhouse, which was finished in March, has enabled the company to expand its production to 100,000 hanging baskets. Well water, which is used to irrigate the plants is collected, treated and recycled. A new collection pond was built as part of the project.
Jim and LaVonda Gibson, took over the operation in 2003 and added four retail locations. The company supplies about 3,000 garden stores. It also produces young starter material for Ball Horticulture and Dummen. The newspaper reports young plants are 40 percent of the business; wholesale 45% and retail and a Christmas tree farm are 15%.
