Attendees at January’s Tropical Plant Industry Exhibition (TPIE) named Medinilla scortechinii ‘Orange’ favorite new flowering plant and aglaonema ‘Pink Sapphire’ as favorite new foliage.

‘Pink Sapphire,’ from Twyford International and Kerry’s Nursery, is part of the Java Jewel series. It grows best in 8- to 10-inch containers. Leaves have pink midribs, random blotches of pink and pink petioles. It’s a vigorous grower with a dense habit. ‘Pink Sapphire’ should be grown in light levels of 1,000-2,500 footcandles. It can withstand temperatures of 45°F-90°F.
