The Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) and Ostara Nutrient Recovery Technologies’ public/private joint partnership unveiled the first facility in the project that will benefit the fragile Chesapeake Bay Watershed. Using Ostara’s innovative technology, the facility recovers nutrients including phosphorous and nitrogen from wastewater and transforms it into an environmentally-friendly commercial fertilizer. This Pearl process benefits the HRSD, its ratepayers and the environment by increasing plant capacity and production efficiencies while creating a premium fertilizer by-product from waste.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was on hand as keynote speaker to launch this phase of the project.
