University of Florida to hold greenhouse training course in August

The course, Costing & Profitability, aims to help growers develop their skills when it comes to measuring profit for their greenhouse or nursery business.

The University of Florida is offering an online greenhouse training course, Costing & Profitability, beginning Aug. 11.

The course is aimed at helping growers develop skills to accurately estimate production cost and profit for their greenhouse or nursery business. Part of the award-winning Greenhouse Training Online program, the course is taught by four professors, including Dr. Charlie Hall, economist from Texas A&M University, and Dr. Paul Fisher, horticulture scientist from University of Florida IFAS Extension.

The course is rated 4.5 out of 5 by grower participants. It is designed for experienced, well-trained growers, or people with upper university education. Topics covered include crop enterprise budgets, income statements, allocation of overhead, seasonality, space use, shrinkage, labor cost and more.

The course is offered in English and Spanish and runs from Aug. 11 to Sept. 5, 2025. The cost is $550 per participant. All course material is completely online, available at any time of the day, and includes pre-recorded videos, an interactive discussion board with Ph.D. professors and quizzes.

Two new modules are activated each week during the course for a total of eight learning modules. Instruction is at your own pace and time within the four weeks of the course, with a typical time commitment of about six hours per week. To register, visit hort.ifas.ufl.edu/training.
