Walmart announced that it has launched a new global commitment to sustainable agriculture aimed at helping small- and medium-sized growers that will help them expand their businesses, receive more income for their products and reduce the environmental impact of farming while strengthening local economies. By the end of 2015 Walmart is seeking to sell $1 billion in food sources from 1 million small- and medium-sized farms. The retailer is seeking to increase the income of the farmers it sources from by 10-15%. It also plans to provide training to 1 million farmers and farm workers in regards to crop selection and sustainable farming practices.
