Wooster Community Hospital in Wooster, Ohio, has started GreenPoint Garden to produce fruits and vegetables for its dietary department. The produce is used in daily meal preparation, reports The-Daily-Record.com.
The newspaper said that hospital board of governor member James Anderson worked with entomologist Joe Kovach at Ohio St. Univ.-Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center to start the garden 3 years ago. Kovach designed the garden using sustainable gardening principles to avoid having to apply pesticides.
The garden contains 570 plants including 13 vegetable varieties along with apples, blueberries, strawberries and raspberries. The hospital auxiliary is maintaining the garden.
